Howdy! Just another rainy day in South Mississippi! YUP...It's RAINING!!! Thank you God! So, what's been going on since the last time I shared with you? I'm so glad you asked me that question...
Ok...so maybe you didn't ask me, but I'm going to tell you anyway. We've been very busy the last couple of weeks, and it was a good kind of busy. I served on the production team at church (LOVE Northwood Church) for the 3rd straight Sunday. I love being able to help share the word of God! Also, our church small group got to spend some amazing share time with the great residents of the Gulfport Care Center, and then we got to partake in some food and fellowship at Buffalo Wild Wings. It was truly a blessing to share quality time with the residents there. It reminds us all that there are people everywhere who just want someone to spend a little time with them, let them know they matter to someone.
My wife and I also went on another little adventure...our third concert since June. I have to tell you, it's been a blast!!! Through the years, I've been to a few concerts, but this summer, I have gotten to see some shows I never thought I would ever see. Christopher Cross, Queen+Adam Lambert, and then Chicago...some of my favorite music through the years and my honey shared these with me for my birthday!
So, this brings me to the title of today's journal entry. I have been trying to reconcile the fact that, no matter what, there are some people who always look at any situation as one of "the glass is half empty" (pessimist), instead of "the glass is half full" (optimist).
Several folks have tried to dampen my enthusiasm for the shows we've been attending by pointing out that the groups only have SOME of the original members, or that they don't SOUND like they did 40 years ago...
SO WHAT?!?!? I mean, let's face it....THEY ARE OLD! Brian May (Queen) 72, Roger Taylor (Queen) 70, Robert Lamm (Chicago) 75, Christopher Cross 68...No wonder some of the original members are no longer performing. As for them sounding different, I ask you this...who sounds like they did 40 or 50 years ago??? NO ONE!
I don't care! IT'S STILL ROCK 'N ROLL TO ME!!! I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing my old favorites and seeing these performances live. These people are amazing as far as I'm concerned. I mean, to still be touring and performing at their age...and with the energy they produce at their shows, it is truly amazing! And the audiences are also amazing! We've seen little old ladies walking into the arenas with walkers, grandparents with their grand kids. At the Chicago concert, I didn't see a dozen people under the age of 50 in whole place! It was awesome!
Everything changes...some good, some not so good. I'm ok with this because I know I'm not the same as I was way back when. I accept this and embrace the love in my heart of the music and the memories it brings to mind. More importantly, it's something my wife and I can share together...which reminds me of this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson...
"LIFE IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION."
Well, I'm having a great time on my journey. Just leave me alone with my music and my memories. We're getting old...but we don't care!!! You see...IT'S STILL ROCK 'N ROLL TO ME!!!
PEACE & LOVE
