I'm sure that everyone would agree with this statement...There are times in your life that you have absolutely no idea how to handle a situation. I am currently faced with a very unique problem...one that seems to worsen by the day! You see...I have a cat that has chosen to stop using the litter box for his pooping needs!
He is 9 years old and he's odd...and I mean ODD! When he wasn't even a year old and he got very sick from a brain mite. He really should have died, but somehow, he survived. Since then, he has become VERY eccentric. He has vision issues, hearing issues, and mental issues. What I mean by that is...he is CRAZY!!! From one day to the next, you never know what he will do (or not do) or how he will react to even the simplest occurrence. He will love for you to rub and pet him today and bite your finger off the next day...with NO warning and no discernable provocation. OH YEAH...he also will start pooping in odd places...like your bed!
If we do ANYTHING that upsets the routine around our house, it seems to send him into a mental tailspin and we never know how long his deviations from reality will last. Sometimes, there are only one or two incidents and then it's over. Occasionally though, like right now, there seems to be no end to the madness. He still uses the litter box to pee pee...but he starts pooping in any convenient location. This time he has chosen my daughter's old bedroom as the new depository for his poops. There is ONE small blessing in this problem...he's using the same place each time, so we have been able to protect (...just not prevent it...) the floor.
So what has brought on this deviation from acceptable litter box behavior? My daughter and son-in-law bought a new house, so we carried her the furniture from her bedroom in our house for one of their guest rooms. We moved the furniture on a Thursday night and were greeted with fresh poop in front of the closet in the empty room the next morning. This had led to 7 straight days of poo-pooitis! He WAS gracious enough one day to cover the poop with a quilt and tried very hard to utilize a small pillow that was lying close by on another occasion. But...the poop just keeps on coming!
I'm sure that some of you have wonderful suggestions for how to prevent this from happening, or wonder why we just don't close off the bedroom. First of all, if we close off the room, it affects the air flow in the house. Also, our other cat and our dog both love to spend time looking out of the window from this room. It's the only window on the entire house that faces the street and it's just cruel to block them off from access because of the poopaholic! As for stopping him...GOOD LUCK! I keep my fingers to myself at the best of times, but I'm sure not going to interrupt him when he's pooping! Hopefully, this little episode will come to an end...SOON!
So why did I bother to share this little gem of my life with the rest of the world? I guess I just wanted the world to know about our crazy cat....And just in case you stop by the house and detect a strange odor that drifts by your nose. YES...I cleaned the carpet...but sometimes I still think I can detect a hint of that wonderful "kitty perfume" scent.
So...you've been warned! Visit at your own risk and meet the craziest cat you'll ever see (or smell)!!!
Peace & Poop
